Photos and AI processing

When you run a scan, the photo you choose is sent to a third-party AI service to produce your analysis: OpenRouter, which routes it to Google's Gemini model. Undertona asks for your permission in the app before your first scan, and scans are not possible without it.

We configure these requests to use only AI providers that do not retain your photo or use it to train AI models. Undertona itself never stores your photos: they are processed in memory to create your result and then discarded. Only the text result of a scan (for example your color season, palette and routine) is saved to your account.

Photos are used only to produce your analysis. They are never used for advertising and never sold.

Account data

Undertona works without a sign-up form: the app sets up a private account on your device. We store your onboarding answers, scan results, saved looks and subscription status. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number in the app; a first name you enter is optional.

Sign in with Apple

If you choose to sign in with Apple to back up your account, we store the unique identifier Apple gives us for your account, plus a token that lets us disconnect Sign in with Apple when you delete your account. We do not request your name or email address from Apple. If you sign in on a device where you already used Undertona, that device's results are added to your account.

Website and the former early access list

Before launch, undertona.com offered an early access list. It is now closed. Any email address it collected, together with the page it was submitted from, is used only to announce the app, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.

Cookies and website analytics

We count page views on undertona.com with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not identify you across sites or days. We skip it if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, or if you previously declined analytics on our earlier cookie banner. We use no advertising or tracking cookies. The app uses its own analytics, described in the next section.

Do Not Track. Your browser may send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. We treat Global Privacy Control as an opt out and skip analytics when it is on. We do not track you across other websites, so there is no cross site tracking for a Do Not Track signal to turn off.

App usage analytics

The app records which screens you open and which buttons you use (for example: finished onboarding, saw the paywall, started a scan, a scan completed), so we can see where people get stuck and fix it. These events are sent to PostHog, our analytics provider, on servers in the United States, and are linked to your random Undertona account id. They never include your photos, your scan results (such as your color season or undertone), your name or your email. We do not record your screen, we do not use your location, PostHog discards your IP address, and we do not use the advertising identifier or share this data with advertisers, so it is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

You can turn this off any time in the app under You → Share usage analytics. When it is off, the app sends no analytics events.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Apple. RevenueCat tells us whether your subscription is active; we never see your payment details.

Sharing

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. Service providers that process data for us (OpenRouter and Google for scans, RevenueCat for purchases, PostHog for app analytics) may only use it to provide their service to us.

Deletion

Delete your account any time in the app under You → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, scans and saved looks, and revokes our access to your Sign in with Apple credentials.
