What is my skin tone?
Open a selfie taken in daylight, then tap your cheek, jaw and forehead. You get the color code of your skin, its depth and which way it leans. The photo never leaves your device.
Best results: window light, no flash, no makeup, face filling most of the frame.
Tap 3 to 5 spots of bare skin. Avoid shadows, shine, freckles and redness.
Your skin tone is one part of your coloring. Undertona reads your undertone, depth and contrast together from one selfie and gives you your color season.
How the skin tone finder reads your photo
Each tap averages a small patch of pixels, so one stray freckle or pore does not throw it off, and every spot you add is averaged with the others. The color is then converted to the CIELAB color space, which is built to match how people see color. Its lightness value places you on the depth scale, and the angle between its red and yellow parts shows whether your skin leans pink (cool), golden (warm) or sits between them (neutral).
A camera only sees the light that reached your face, so treat the undertone lean as a hint, not a verdict. Confirm it with the undertone test, which uses signs a camera cannot fake, like which metal suits you and how you tan.
The skin depth scale
| Depth | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Very fair and fair | Burns easily, often suits lighter, softer colors and gentle contrast. |
| Light and medium | The widest middle range: undertone and contrast decide more than depth. |
| Tan | Carries richer, more saturated color; very pale pastels can look ashy. |
| Deep and very deep | Wears deep jewel tones and bright, high-contrast colors especially well. |
Depth is only one part of your coloring. Your color season combines it with undertone and contrast.
Skin tone finder FAQ
How do I find my skin tone?
Take a photo in daylight with no makeup, then tap a few spots on your cheek, jaw and forehead in the tool above. It averages them into one color, gives you its hex code and places it on a scale from very fair to very deep. Your undertone is a separate question; the tool shows which way the color leans and the undertone test confirms it.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is opened by your own browser and never leaves your device. Nothing on this page sends it to a server, stores it or runs it through a model.
Why does my result change between photos?
Light changes skin color on camera more than anything else. Warm bulbs push every reading warm, and phone cameras adjust white balance on their own. Use the same window light, no flash, and compare photos taken the same way.
What is the difference between skin tone and undertone?
Skin tone (or depth) is how light or dark your skin is. Undertone is the hue underneath: cool, warm, neutral or olive. Two people with the same depth can have different undertones, which is why they suit different colors.
